Only those authorised can enter polling stations – EC

Voters, polling station staff, secretaries of contesting parties, candidates, polling agents and election observers, police officers on duty at polling stations and other persons authorised by the returning officers are permitted to enter polling stations on the date of the Uva Provincial Council election on September 20, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya states in a release.

The release added that the use of mobile phones, taking of photographs, videoing, retaining of arms, smoking, use of liquor and other intoxicants and the entry of either armed or unarmed bodyguards of candidates are prohibited in the polling station premises.

The release stated that the entire premises where the polling booth is located is considered as the polling station.
