State media taken to task over carrying false news reports

The Elections Commissioner took immediate action to rectify a false news report carried by a state media institution stating that the Deputy Leader of the UNP, Sajith Premadasa had joined the government. The Commissioner personally visited the institution and arranged for a rectification to be carried out regarding this matter.  

The relevant state media institution thereafter carried a statement by MP Sajith Premadasa in this regard where he categorically denied the news item.
